Kids 4 Sale

Wecker twinsRemember those twins that were being "sold" to various people across the internet last year? Well a St. Louis judge decided to terminate the parental rights of the birth parents. I don't know what this means for the future of these kids, but it seems to me the very first clue that someone might be a bad parent is when they give their twins names that are pronounced the same, Kiara and Keyara, in this case. I mean, really, does it take much intelligence to realize that this is about as silly as naming them Chris and Kris? Unless the parents who ultimately adopt these kids change their name to something rational, they'll think their middles names are "With An I" and "With An E" respectively.

And what's with all these invented names? You know it used to be that you found a name that either meant some sort of attribute you wished on your child (Christopher means "Christ bearer", Sabra means "native to Israel" in Hebrew) or after some person who's character or reputation you wish to honor and link to your child (Martin Luther - Martin Luther King, George Washington - George Washington Carver, One of my sons name Jonathan, named after Jonathan Edwards) But now we have this silly trend of inventing words out of thin air, and pretending that they mean something. I took naming my kids really seriously, and wanted to choose names that would have deep meaning. I cannot fathom why someone would want to bestow random syllables on their child, just because they "sound cool".
