Liberalism Exposed

One of the hallmarks of Modern Liberalism has been the elevation of symbolism over substance. This has never been shown more clearly than the recent fiasco with Rep. John Conyers and the 60 Thanksgiving turkeys. Conyers and his staff made a big showing of obtaining 60 turkey, 720 pounds -- that they bragged would be distributed to the poor for Thanksgiving. That one appear magnanimous is more important than whether or not one actually is, in Modern Liberalism.

Agostinho Fernandes runs the Gleaners Community Food Bank and became suspicious when he heard second hand that a court worker had been offered several turkeys by one of Conyers' staffers. Fernandes and the Food Bank had given the turkeys to Conyers' Detroit office on the promise of comfirmation by December 27th. So far no confirmation has arrived.

Conyers people claim that the turkeys were given to people whose name were obtained from the state Family Independence Agency. But the FIA claims no such names were ever given out. Conyers staffers continue to give contradictory accounts of the where-abouts of the birds.

But at least Conyers got to look generous -- that the important thing, right?
