2 billion telemarketers
From NewsMax:
Beginning Feb 6, 2005, dozens of homes and individuals in the Washington D.C. area have been bombarded by phone calls with recorded messages that apparently come from China's Communist regime.
First almost all of our telephone tech support gets outsourced to India, so that trying to get help with your computer requires a translator. Now telemarketers from China? The idea that cyberspace is beyond the long arm of US law has allowed many offshore websites to do nasty stuff. That our telephone systems are equally vulnerable is frightening. I dropped my landlines just to get rid of telemarketers since currently making unsolicited marketing calls to cell phones is considered wire fraud under US law. But that may change if the telemarketers simply call from some other country.
