Are they using Bill Clinton's dictionary?

Wizbang had an interesting commentary on the sentencing of Homosexual, Pedophile, Priest Paul Shanley:

Now, this was in Massachusetts, so there's a certain amount of liberal idiocy involved. Under Massachusetts laughingly-called "laws," Shanley must serve 2/3 of the minimum before being eligible for parole. Also, he can get "credit" for up to one year for "good behavior."

How can it be a “minimum” if the criminal can serve less? What the Liberals who make such moronic laws never seem to realize is that it spawns a sort of judicial polarization in which sentences are expanded by one side as they are shrunk on the other side. Tossing a 150 year sentence at someone is someone's (the judge or the jury) way of combating the lenient sentencing laws. You see the same thing in many homes where one parent leans toward being lenient with the kids while the other leans toward being strict. Each thinks they must be more so to counteract the opposite behavior of the other parent. Thus the family becomes polarized and most kids can easily take advantage of such a situation -- as we see criminals taking advantage of our chaotic court systems.
