Lies the MSM tell about Terri Schiavo

“Terri Schiavo suffered brain damage in 1990 when her heart stopped briefly because of a chemical imbalance.” -- ABCNews

While a jury found Terri's doctor negligent, the Florida's Department of Health found no evidence of any wrongdoing or neglect. Remember a jury also found OJ, not-guilty. Also, at the time of the incident which put Terri in her current state, she stood 5'3" and weighed somewhere between 115 and 118 pounds. This is slightly thin, but very much within a normal weight for that height. (My wife is 5'3" and normally weighs less than 110, and is perfectly healthy. She actually worries about her weight when she gets over 110)

“A court rules that she is incapacitated and her husband, Michael Schiavo, is appointed as her legal guardian.” -- CNN

Within 24 – 48 hours after Terri was admitted to Northside Hospital, Michael Schiavo’s employer, attorney Daniel Grieco, arrived at the hospital and consulted with Terri’s parents outside the Intensive Care waiting room. He recommending they sign documents that would allow Michael Schiavo to handle Terri's medical affairs on the pretense it would expedite Terri’s emergency treatment. Grieco did not mention that Michael Schiavo would have exclusive power to dictate Terri’s medical treatment and the authority to control the release of any medical information concerning Terri.

On June 18, 1990, after an “investigation” declaring Terri incapacitated, a hearing was held in a St. Petersburg courtroom appointing Michael Schiavo as Terri’s legal guardian. While the St. Petersburg court files state that Terri’s parents were notified by mail of these events, including the hearing, and had no objections to Michael Schiavo being appointed Terri’s guardian, Terri’s parents emphatically state that they did not know of the investigation concluding that Terri was incapacitated, or the subsequent court hearing and were never notified. There is also no evidence of any documentation in Terri's legal case files verifying that Terri’s parents supported Michael Schiavo's guardianship appointment, other than a reference that Terri's parents were in agreement. In spite of being in constant daily contact with Michael Schiavo, nothing was ever mentioned regarding these court proceedings by Michael Schiavo or his attorney.  The entire legal Guardianship transaction was handled by attorney Daniel Grieco.

“Doctors say Schiavo, 41, is in a persistent vegetative state and will not fully recover from a heart attack she endured 15 years ago.” -- FOXNews

The only doctors who have stated such a thing are either A. Pro-Euthanasia advocates, B. paid by Michael Schiavo or Michael attorney George Felos, also a well-known euthanasia advocate or C. not medical doctors.

The “star” medical witness Michael Schiavo and his pro-euthanasia attorneys called was Dr. Ronald Cranford. Cranford is an avid advocate of euthanasia, going so far as to publicly call for the starvation of Alzheimer patients.

Dr. Melvin Greer, appointed by Michael Schiavo, testified that a doctor need not examine a patient to know the appropriate medical treatment. He spent approximately 45 minutes with Terri. Dr. Peter Bambakidas, appointed by Judge Greer, spent approximately 30 minutes with Terri.

Dr. Jay Wolfson, a college professor and attorney, not a medical doctor, was appointed by Jeb Bush as guardian ad litem, to determine if Terri's best interests were being served. Wolfson, though, has some suspicious ties to the same healthcare businesses that George Felos has (the reason Terri, a non-terminal patient is in a hospice, reserved solely for terminal patients -- the employees can be controlled by Felos). Wolfson reviewed ONLY the evidence Judge Greer had deemed relevant. Yet a massive amount of extremely relevant testimony and evidence was rejected by Judge Greer with little if any rationale. Woflson began his investigation with his assumptions weighted toward euthanasia (see page four). Even after that, Wolfson found that it was needed to be determined whether Terri could swallow on her own before starving her to death. Chief Circuit Judge David A. Demers in St. Petersburg dismissed Wolfson as GAL once the report was filed, and the report has been totally ignored by the courts.

However, Clearwater, Florida, neurologist Dr. William Hammesfahr testified that Terri shows cognitive function, can respond to her parents and follow commands. When the videotape of Hammesfahr's examination showed Terri's eyes moving when she was given a command, he commented, "A person in a coma does not do that." Hammesfahr also said that a new procedure that increases blood flow and oxygen to the brain could help Terri. "You can get major improvements from patients who have been plateaued for a very long time,"

Dr. William Maxfield, a Tampa radiologist, agreed that Terri is not in a persistent vegetative state, noting her ability to follow commands and her responsiveness. After comparing Terri's 1996 CAT scan to her 2002 scan, Maxfield also testified that Terri's brain tissue appeared more localized and uniform.

"It tells me that the brain tissue on the [2002] study has a more normal appearance," Maxfield testified, adding that hyperbaric oxygen therapy, similar to Hammesfahr's recommendation, could lead to improvement.

“Terri Schiavo suffered brain damage in 1990 when her heart stopped briefly because of a chemical imbalance.” -- MSNBC

Terri was never diagnosed as a heart attack victim when she was admitted to the Northside Humana emergency room in February 1990. Doctors immediately excluded heart attack as her blood enzymes were not elevated — typical in all heart attack victims. Terri’s toxicology screen also eliminated any suspicion of drugs. At the time of Terri’s admittance, blood tests revealed a depletion of electrolytes and her attending physician hypothesized that low blood potassium may have caused her collapse.

Almost every single Main Stream Media outlets repeats the above lies, as well as omits the following salient facts.

Facts censored by the MSM:

• Michael Schiavo has been living with a woman for several years, and has two kids by her.
 • Michael's attorney is a leading pro-euthanasia advocate.
 • In spite of being trained in CPR, Michael failed to perform it on Terri, but still won $3 million in a malpractice suit --ostensibly for Terri's health care, but almost all of it has gone to attorneys in efforts to have her killed.
 • In 1998 the courts appointed Richard L. Pearse Jr. as guardian ad litem. He found that Michael Schiavo had a serious conflict of interest. He said about Michael, “It is apparent to me, that he has reached a point that he has no hope of the ward's recovery and wants to get on with his own life.” He said about the Schindlers, “From the time of the ward's accident, the ward's parents have been vitally interested in her welfare” Pearse recommended leaving the feeding tube in -- Greer dismissed the report

Terri Schiavo update from Cheryl Ford

Received via email:

From: Cheryl Ford RN
March 21, 2005 -- 2:20 AM ET

President Bush signed the bill into law at 1:11 AM ET

The attorney's here in Florida will need to locate a Federal Judge now who will agree to hear the case. I've been told that the judge is chosen through a random process. Once a judge is assigned, we believe the Federal judge will sign a protective stay and will authorize permission to have Terri's feeding tube reinserted. The attorney's are still awake and are working to quickly obtain the necessary signatures so they can be prepared to move forward with the next legal step.

The Schindlers are very tired but are holding up remarkably well. They are at the Hospice facility. Their primary focus at this time is on their daughters safety and having her feeding tube reinserted as soon as possible.

Mr. Schindler reports that Terri is doing fine. He said Terri is alert and her skin is cool. He said she appeared a bit more tired today, however, she is still doing well.

Terri's parents are very grateful for all the support they have received from every one here on the internet. They know that it was due to all of your hard work calling and writing the Senate that helped to have Terri's story heard in Congress.

Please note, Terri's situation is not over until we have a judge who is willing to give a protective stay and we are assured that her her feeding tube can be reinserted.

The family request that you please continue to pray for Terri's safety and health.

I will keep you posted as I hear anything new from the Schindlers.

Thank you again for the dedication and caring you continue to provide to the Schindler family.

You are an amazing group of people and I personally thank you as well.

Cheryl Ford RN
