Mel speaks up for Terri

From the Florida Baptist Witness:

Hollywood's Mel Gibson, producer of The Passion of The Christ, lent his support Friday to Terri Schiavo, the Florida woman at the center of the euthanisia debate that is heating up this week with an approaching Mar. 18 date set to begin her starvation process.

Nice gesture...not sure what it'll do. I have to admit the ambivalence some people show toward this issue is irksome. I asked for prayer for Terri in my Sunday School class, and the request was brushed off with, “Well, there's some web site people can go to if they want to know about that.” So Mel Gibson's statement does mean a lot in terms of the increased solidarity of those supporting Terri.

I suppose there are people who want to be a part of what's happening because they want the publicity, and some who simply want to be involved in something. But there are many who simply can't help but feel that they have no choice. What is happening to Terri is a part of them because when injustice like this happens, it should be everyone's business. When I heard that Judge Greer had dismissed all the motions last week, it put me in a foul mood. I can't help but see my own loved ones as also under the cruel whim of some judge, if this horror is allowed to continue. It isn't about one woman or one family -- it's about all of us.
