Terri Schiavo is precious. She is precious to her mother, father, sister and brother. She is also precious to many of us who have never met her. I suppose because she is one of us, she is human. And perhaps ,too, because we know what it is to love as the Shindler's love Terri. That is, for better or worse. We don't love attributes above essence. We would not love less if our loved one were to loose limbs, or mental or physical capacity. We are horrified that a judge is able to rip Terri away from the parents who still treasure her. We are horrified that a judge would make it possible for her adulterous husband to have her starved to death. We are horrified because, unlike judge greer, we are not criminally insane. If no branch of the government does anything to prevent this horrible crime from taking place, then truly the America that I loved and believed in is dying with Terri Schiavo. Terri, so defenseless and innocent the victim of murder at the hands of my government. Yes, this country dies to me with the last beat of precious Terri Schiavo's very human heart.
I've gotta pick my jaw up off the ground over and over again over the statements of Atty. Felos. Terri Schaivo now looks "beautiful" to him. He states that she's "calm" and "peaceful" as she is forced nearer and nearer death. As his victory digs it's tenacles deeper and deeper into Terri, sucking the very life out of her, he admires the fruits of his labor. He must be magic or deity or something. He's managed to take a blob of protoplasm, all vegetable except for those unpredictable and annoyingly deceptive reflexes, and transform it into something else. Even though for just a brief period, Terri the vegetable is Terri the beautiful human being who is "calm" and "resting peacefully", in the words of Felos. Beautiful, calm, restful ,peaceful and soon to be very dead Terri. Way to go George! You took down an utterly defenseless woman despite the desperate pleas of her mother and father. What a man!
