What have you done for me lately?

Dhimmi Watch reports that parents in Dubai are outraged that a schoolbook their children are learning from, off handedly implies that Muslims can [gasp] be friends with Jews.

IsraPundit notes that the anniversary of the US withdrawal from Vietnam should alert Israel that the US may very well be a fair weather friend. I can't really argue with that reasoning, given the Left's habit of siding with Palestinian Terrorists.

Danny,

That was not at all the point of my post at Israpundit. What I said was,

"Herein lies the warning and hope for Israel. She, too, is subject to an assault by a coalition which includes mainstream media and mainstream academia. She, too, is at the precipice of an ignoble withdrawal. She too is teaching her enemies that they can defeat her - by a fifth column, if not on the battlefield. And she too should consider the consequences."

But come to think of it, the friendship that the US shows does have severe limitations. In 1990-1, the Shia in South Iraq learnt that lesson, and so did the Israelis - time an again. Examples: In Truman's time, the US declared an embargo on sending arms to Israel; in Eisenhower's time, the US ejected Israel from the Sinai, leading directly to the 1967 War; during the 1973 War, the US withheld arms shipments to Israel for eight days, that saw Israel bleed terribly; in Reagan's time, Israel was condemned for bombing Osiraq; and now Israel is forced to withdraw from Judea, Samaria and Gaza, even as the US is encouraging the creation of another Arab state. So perhaps you are right after all - the US is a most unreliable ally, but that was not the import of the article you quoted.

I tend to speed read posts as I do these "roundup bursts" so I must have grabbed the wrong thread of thought. I do think the eventually America will become a "fair weather friend" and I also am convinced that America's support of Israel so far is one of the primary reasons for America's success. God's covenant with Israel is very much still there, that includes blessing those that bless Israel and cursing those that curse Israel.
