Beware of Democrats offering to compromise

In private talks with Majority Leader Bill Frist, the Senate’s top Democrat has indicated a willingness to allow confirmation of two of President Bush’s seven controversial appeals court nominees, but only as part of a broader compromise requiring Republicans to abandon threats to ban judicial filibusters, officials said Monday.

At the same time he floats the possibility of clearing two nominees to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals for approval, officials said Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., wants a third appointee to the same circuit to be replaced by an alternative who is preferred by Michigan’s two Democratic senators.

In other words, the Dems will allow two through in exchange for retaining the power to block any others. Right.

In a similar story destined to be ignored by the MSM, in spite of its irony:

For the last four weeks, a group of 10 state senators in Alabama has been filibustering a bill that the lawmakers believe is backed by the gambling lobby, and the head of the state Christian Coalition believes the legislation is designed to hurt the political efforts of groups like his that are working against that lobby.

John Giles is president of the Christian Coalition of Alabama. He says the bill known as HB 75, which was approved in the State House last year, would require the donor list of his and other issue advocacy nonprofit groups be disclosed -- a requirement which he believes would open those on the list up to attack.

Here we have Alabama Conservatives using the filibuster while national Conservative fight to get rid of it. Any other time the MSM would be all over this claiming it's a sign of hypocrisy, but if they did so, the real story of what's happening in Alabama would come out, and that would help the religious groups the Alabama gambling mafia want to stifle.
