Mae Magouirk: Today's news
As you've heard A.B. “Buddy” McLeod and Lonnie Mullinax got to visit their sister Mae yesterday. They aren't telling her any of what's going on because they don't want to upset her, especially given her current condition. When I spoke with Ken this morning he said they are hoping to convince Mae to stay in Alabama with them, rather than return to Georgia. Both Buddy and Ken have offered to allow her to live with them. (Mae has a cat she's very fond of, though, so they'd also have to be willing to welcome a cat in the house, and not everyone is a cat person.)
The Alabama family are obviously pleased with Judge Boyd's recusal. They expect to be able to go before another judge sometime next week, and yes, they will be asking for a change in guardians. At about 11am today Ken will be meeting with Shane Magouirk, Mae's grandson and Beth Gaddy's younger brother (it turns out that Beth is actually 41 and Shane is 36. Maybe that's why Beth didn't want to comment on all the reports that said she is 36). Shane is the one who was giving Mae ice chips and Jell-O to keep her alive, and now really wants to work at keeping the family together.
Ken asked me to request something of other bloggers. Last night a blogger called his mother's hospital room. He's obviously, and justifiable angered. He has no problem with people calling him because he is acting as the spokesman for the family — but his mother in her hospital room?!? Come on people, have at least a little bit of common sense and human kindness. Lonnie Mullinax is being treated for the exact same heart condition that Mae Magouirk is. She's not being told every little detail of what's going on because they worry about how she could handle the stress. For pete's sake — leave her alone.
Other bloggers, please pass that message along. Ken was a little surprised that there's no “Code of Conduct” for bloggers and it looks as if we might very well need one.
