Railroading Rove

From the Associated Press via Yahoo! News:

Rove testified that Novak originally called him the Tuesday before Plame's identity was revealed in July 2003 to discuss another story.

The conversation eventually turned to Plame's husband, Joseph Wilson, a former ambassador who was strongly criticizing the Bush administration's use of faulty intelligence to justify the war in Iraq, the person said.

Rove testified that Novak told him he planned to report in a weekend column that Plame had worked for the CIA, and the circumstances on how her husband traveled to Africa to check bogus claims that Iraq was trying to buy nuclear materials in Niger, according to the source....

Rove told the grand jury that by the time Novak had called him, he believes he had similar information about Wilson's wife from another member of the news media but he could not recall which reporter had told him about it first, the person said.

When Novak inquired about Wilson's wife working for the CIA, Rove indicated he had heard something like that, according to the source's recounting of the grand jury testimony.

Rove told the grand jury that three days later, he had a phone conversation with Time magazine reporter Matt Cooper and — in an effort to discredit some of Wilson's allegations — informally told Cooper that he believed Wilson's wife worked for the CIA, though he never used her name, the source said.

An e-mail Cooper recently provided the grand jury shows Cooper reported to his magazine bosses that Rove had described Wilson's wife in a confidential conversation as someone who "apparently works" at the CIA.

Of course, you realize, this AP release was obtained because someone leaked information they could get in trouble for leaking. The media do that all the time, yet seem to be having a cow over Rove repeating their leak. If Cooper got his info from Rove after Rove got it from Novak, why is Rove being accused of being THE leaker? And why is Miller still in jail? Even the MSM is finally waking up to the fact that Rove didn't break any laws, even if he were the original leaker.

[Kyra] PHILLIPS: Well, aside from maybe partisan politics, looking strictly at the law that you drafted, do you see any evidence, according to this law, any evidence of any criminal wrongdoing?

[Bruce] SANFORD [Washington-based First Amendment attorney who helped draft the 1982 Intelligence Identities Protection Act ]: No, I think it's pretty clear that what Karl Rove said to Time magazine's Matthew Cooper doesn't even come close to the kind of knowing violation that is required by the act. Really, the act really requires an intent to harm national security, and that certainly can't be said in these circumstances, I think.

After all that time making excuses for Clinton's blatant corruption, scandals and law-breaking, Libs and their MSM apologist are making fools of themselves harping about something few people really believe was a crime, let alone actually hurt anyone. I think David Limbaugh hit the nail on the head in yesterday's column:

The Left's underestimation of Bush and irrational fear of Rove distort their perception and drive them into a mouth-foaming feeding frenzy to devour this mad political scientist. These misapprehensions also explain their jaded view of the baseless claims against Rove in the Valerie Plame matter.

Incidentally, and I hope I'm not exposing some big secret, but I only recently found out that there actually is no such place as Langley, Virginia, where everyone says the CIA headquarters is. I found that when trying to locate their headquarters on Google Maps. It turns out that the neighborhood in McLean, Virginia that they're in, is called Langley, but it's not actually a town --McLean's the town. I suppose that might be an effort, on their part, to keep stupid people from pestering them, except they mention it themselves on their website. Just in case, though, don't tell any stupid people about it, okay.
