Tancreado, still clueless

From a guest commentary by Tom Tancreado in the Denver Post:

By now, many people in America - and likely around the world - are familiar with my statements regarding a possible response to a nuclear attack on U.S. cities by fundamentalist Islamic terrorists.

And there is the crux of the problem. Extremist Moslems carried out these terrorist attacks, not Fundamentalist Moslems. Tancreado doesn't seem capable of distinguishing the difference. We have extremists “Christians” in America, like Fred Phelps. Should all Fundamentalists be mindlessly accused of the kinds of hate-filled idiocy Phelps is notorious for?

Without question, my comments have prompted strong reactions from many quarters, but they have also served to start a national dialogue about what options we have to deter al-Qaeda and other would-be Islamic terrorists.

And a discussion of the importance of child safety has begun after the kidnappings and murders of the Groene family, but I hardly think that justifies Joseph Edward Duncan's behavior.

Few can argue that our current approach to this war has deterred fundamentalists from killing Westerners - nor has it prompted "moderate" Muslims and leaders of Muslim countries to do what is necessary to crack down on the extremists in their midst who perpetuate these grisly crimes.

Say what? For the first part most of those initially responsible for the 9/11 are now dead. Maybe I'm being picky, but that sure sounds like a deterrent to me. Whether or not Moderate Moslems (who Tancreado questions the existence of by his quotes) are motivated to side with us is a laughable point given that his enflamed rhetoric will certainly drive most of them away from trying to help. Tancreado creates a much stronger reason for them to believe that it is, after all, a war against Islam. Something the rest of us, including our President, have worked hard to keep it from being.

That being the case, perhaps the civilized world must intensify its approach.

But isn't that the exact same reasoning the terrorists use? Quiet words are getting us no where -- let's do more!! Oh, but you say, we'd never resort to the slaughter of innocents like the terrorists have done. Really? What is it that Tancreado said that sparked the whole mess? Wasn't it a threat to bomb Mecca? How many innocent people would be slaughtered if that happened. And how does that make us any better than the terrorists? I can't see any reason it would.

Tancreado should shut up while the shuttin' up's good.

That's not the ONLY issue the Congressman is clueless about.
