Florida Guardian Assoc. declares Terri's murderer "Guardian of the Year"

From the Orlando Sentinel...

The Florida State Guardianship Association bestowed its Guardian of the Year Award on Schiavo for carrying out his wife's wishes not to be kept alive artificially despite a drumbeat of withering criticism.

In a rare public appearance, Schiavo, 42, modestly accepted the award at the association's 18th annual conference at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa west of Miami.

"As you know," he said, "I'm not much of a speechmaker. I don't talk much. But on behalf of my wife, Theresa, I thank you."

Association members, most of whom are appointed by judges to represent people who have been declared incapacitated, acknowledged Schiavo was a controversial choice and they anticipate a backlash. After all, Gov. Jeb Bush joined world leaders from the president to the pope in aligning themselves with Bob and Mary Schindler, the Pinellas County couple who fought their son-in-law's effort to remove the feeding tube that kept their severely brain-damaged daughter alive for 15 years.

But, group members said, Michael Schiavo's unwavering commitment to honoring his wife's wishes in the face of public scrutiny and enmity embodied the professionalism and compassion with which court-appointed guardians quietly carry out their duties every day.

Are these people idiots?!? First of all it was only hearsay that it was her wishes. There was never any proof offered to substantiate that she wanted it, and Judge "Kill all the cripples" Greer dismissed, without reason, the testimony offered that Terri had spoken against such a thing.

Kenneth Goodman, a University of Miami bioethicist (right) and the keynote speaker at the conference was sent an email by former Schindler attorney Pat Anderson which says...

As Bob and Mary Schindler's former attorney, I have a passing fair familiarity with the facts of Michael Schiavo's conduct as a guardian for Terri Schiavo.

Did you know that FOR TWELVE YEARS -- from 1990 until 2002 -- Mr. Schiavo steadfastly refused to take the statutorily-mandated training all private guardians must undergo? Did you know his refusal came in the face of annual demands from the Clerk's office that he do so?

Did you also know that Mr. Schiavo did not file annual reports and plans in a timely fashion year after year and, for at least two years, filed no report and plan at all?

Did you know that when Mr. Schiavo did grudgingly and belatedly file plans -- there was no plan at all for her improvement?

Did you know the experimental surgical treatment that you specifically mentioned as praiseworthy occurred in NOVEMBER, 1990? Did you know that after the summer of 1992, Terri never received another minute of therapy of any kind -- including routine physical therapy -- up until the moment of her death, on Mr. Schiavo's orders?

These are facts documented in the court file, Mr. Goodman. They are not unwarranted "attacks" on Mr. Schiavo, simply facts that anyone who makes an effort can discover. The further fact that the Court did not ever sanction Mr. Schiavo for his shortcomings as a guardian is more a testament to an overloaded court docket than a testament to Mr. Schiavo's dedication.

Don't you think honoring Mr. Schiavo as "Guardian of the Year" is insulting to the thousands of honest, hard-working guardians who follow Florida law in act and spirit? There is much more to being a guardian than insisting on the ward's death, Mr. Goodman.

It's sad to see group that might otherwise be beneficial, join the Cult of Death. Hopefully the members of the group will set the leadership straight.

There are several red flags about this whole mess. From looking at the newsletter of the Association, I find it suspicious that so many involved make their living off of "caring for the elderly", but see no problem with what Michael Schiavo did.

Of note is the recent president of the Florida State Guardians Association, Joan Nelson Hook. If you'll remember a few months ago Judge Greer was "honored" by the West Pasco Bar Association. The president of that association? Joan Nelson Hook.

Hook on Greer the murderer...

We admired his ability to sustain the pressure not to follow the law. I don't think anyone could ever say his decisions were unlawful.

Hook on Mike the murderer...

He was an ordinary guardian who carried out his duties in extraordinary ways.

Hook is an attorney that specializes in assistance to the elderly. One has to wonder what kind of "assistance" that would be if she's involved in honoring those who violate the law to murder the innocent. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Center for Independence, Inc., the Hospice of Pasco (Florida's Gus Bilirakis is also a former board member. He was also a board member of the Suncoast Hospice, as well as donated to George Greer's judicial campaign. He also was the one who added to Florida House bill 3121 that a feeding tube is a "live-prolonging method" as opposes to...well...giving someone food) and the Florida State Guardianship Association. She is a member of the Guardianship Committee of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section, and past Chair of the Guardianship Committee of the Elder Law Section of the Florida Bar. She is also a member of the North Suncoast Estate Planning Council ( group which numerous attorneys and CPAs boast of belonging to, but has no real description on the internet), the Elder Law Section of the Florida Bar, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and is Secretary of the Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys.

For someone so enthusiastic about killing the infirm, she sure is neck-deep in "caring" for the elderly. But many of those involved in the FSGA have similar connections. If we found that someone involved with caring for children held sympathies for child-molesters, we'd demand their removal, but here we have dozens of people, honoring an adulterous husband who murdered his wife, forced to be under his "care", and these people are all involved in the care of the elderly. What's going on?

You might want to get hip on those special little Guardian Laws. This is the death trap Terri fell in.

I am outraged that Jeb Bush did not stop her murder. President? You have got to be kidding. NO WAY. He can't even control the crime in one county. This coming for an X Right winged Republican. I learned the TRUTH about that PARTY when Terri was murdered.

Danny, you might want to check the Myopic Zeal http://myopiczeal.blogsome.com/2005/03/25/cast-of-characters-in-the-schiavo-case/

Characters list of Schivao players. Mary Labyak told a meeting at the hospice they "must corner the death market" per the Empire Journal. Also, The Bush family are stock holders of Hospice and Nursing Homes throughout the country, as of 2003, reported by the Journal. One company in particular took kickbacks and that is possibly why the DOJ did not get involved with this hospice, per the Journal. You will have to purchase the article if you want it. I read it when it was free.
Here is the head death culture advocate. She pays herself 200,000 a year. This is disgusting.

Mary Labyak, Executive Director and President, The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast which oversees Woodside Hospice.
Current board member of the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast.
Board member of Partnership for Caring (a direct offspring of the
Euthanasia Society of America).
Board member of National Hospice Foundation
National Director and Treasurer of National Hospice and Palliative
Care Organization (NHPCO)

Why so many hospices in Pinellas County? Why always the same President? This looks like a heavy duty stuff to tackle. Something needs to hit the proverbial fan.
