Why I find Blogger.com annoying

There are some good blogs hosted at blogger.com/blogspot.com. I come across great posts daily. The trouble is, there are so many blogs and blog posts I have to make a decision about which to link to as covering a specific story. My criteria is that if they accept trackbacks, that's good; if they accept trackbacks and post the links of the trackbacks on the main page, that's great.

Apparently blogger.com doesn't offer trackbacks themselves but allows users to add them via haloscan. I'm not sure how this works, but what it does mean is that in order for the trackback to work, I have to do it by hand. I try to be expedient with my time, so it's not always worthwhile to take the time to add trackbacks by hand, but for the past couple of days I decided to go ahead and do it, and include some blogger blogs.

Then I found out that haloscan accepts trackbacks slowly, very slowly. If I tried to have more than one haloscan trackback in a post, it would reject the rest, and make me wait several minutes before accepting any more. So much for that idea.

I still do link to some blogger blogs on a regular basis, Don Singleton and Mark in Mexico for instance, since they link to me so often; The Anchoress, since she has some exceptional posts. But the rest, I generally ignore. I bet there's a solution to the problem, even of making blogger.com compatible with Trackback Auto-Discovery, and if I worked on it, I could probably find that solution, but I'm looking at a plate piled miles high with stuff to do already.

It's not that I don't like the blogs at blogger.com, many are really good blogs, but it's simply not worth messing with when I'm including links.

*sniff, sniff* I'm not hurt. Really, I'm not.

But, does that mean that you'll offer me a really cheap rate to re-do my blog elsewhere?

There's supposed to be someplace for homeschoolers to blog free, but I can't remember the link, and I don't know how good it is. I have a web hosting service with a $5 a month account that would be perfect for a smaller blog.
