The Terminator becomes the Exterminator

This morning, shortly after midnight, California exterminated one of its vermin...

Convicted killer Stanley Tookie Williams, the Crips gang co-founder whose case stirred a national debate about capital punishment versus the possibility of redemption, was executed Tuesday morning.

Williams, 51, died at 12:35 a.m. after receiving a lethal injection at San Quentin State Prison, officials said. Before the execution, he was "complacent, quiet and thoughtful," Corrections Department spokeswoman Terry Thornton said.

In spite of the massive PR campaign to paint the unrepentant and unapologetic murderer as everything from a children's book author to the reincarnation of Gandhi, California Governor Arnold Swatsenegger refused to grant a stay of execution and the State of California went ahead and executed him. I don't know about you, but a painless lethal injection seems awfully unbalanced given what almost all of these criminals do to warrant the death penalties.
