"Michael Newdow is a moron" bill passes House
Okay that's not it's name, but it should be.
From NewsMax...
The House, citing the nation's religious origins, voted Wednesday to protect the Pledge of Allegiance from federal judges who might try to stop schoolchildren and others from reciting it because of the phrase "under God."
The legislation, a priority of social conservatives, passed 260-167. It now goes to the Senate where its future is uncertain.
"We should not and cannot rewrite history to ignore our spiritual heritage," said Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn. "It surrounds us. It cries out for our country to honor God."
Opponents said the legislation, which would bar federal courts from ruling on the constitutional validity of the pledge, would undercut judicial independence and would deny access to federal courts to religious minorities seeking to defend their rights.
Yeah, right. Like the courts even care what the law actually says. They invent laws when they want to.
What this will do, if ultimately passed, will say to idiot judges that they're working against the flow, and their rulings will be overturned. And it won't be because of what the law says, but because they'll know that before any bill can get passed there has to be enough support by voters for the legislators to want to pass it. As long as the idiots at the ACLU keep doing outrageous things to remind people how hateful and bitter some people are toward religion, then public opinion will be focus on the issue, and Congress will respond accordingly. Regardless of the arrogant and inflated view of their own power, judges will ultimately not go too far against the will of the people. While it's extremely rare, and unlikely, they can be impeached if they tick people off enough.
But, at least I have the hope that other bloggers will help dub this bill the "Michael Newdow is a Moron" bill, and a nice trend can be set.
