I got mentioned on Slate

Timothy Noah, a senior writer at Slate opines about Tom Delay's new blog. I'm mentioned four paragraphs (or 12 falsehoods, depending which method you prefer to use) down. Mr. Noah writes...

The absolute worst thing on DeLay's blog is an interview with right-wing blogger Danny Carlton, proprietor of JackLewis.net. The blogosphere and its impact on politics/the media/the arts/American life has been discussed to death. There is nothing left to say, particularly within the blogosphere itself. I propose that this topic be banned from all future public discourse.

Coming from someone who's actually naive enough to believe that Tom Delay resigned because of "various ethical missteps" rather than a witch-hunt by a partisan Texas prosecutor; I'm not terribly bothered by his statements. Besides, the only time MSM types ever speak favorably of blogging is when they're trying to cash in on its popularity. People like Noah hate bloggers. We're competition, unpaid competition at that, which makes us even more annoying to him. Is it that the impact bloggers have made on politics/the media/the arts/whatever has been discussed to death, or simply more than Noah's want to sit and listen to? "Hey, Tim, did ya see the stats on how many people are reading blogs rather than your magazine?" Not really an unbiased source on bloggers, is he.

But, at least I got another mention, even though I have to stop and explain what Slate is to almost everyone I tell.

"You got mentioned in Slate...what's that?"

"It's like this online magazine."

"You mean a blog?"

"No, a magazine."

"Like in the supermarket?"

"Well, no it's just online."

"Right, a blog."

"No it's...um...uh...got a bunch of people that write for it.."

"Like a group blog?"

"Yeah, but...they call themselves an online magazine and not a blog."

"So it's not a blog because they want to call themselves a magazine?"

"Uh...yeah."

"Never heard of 'em."

Well, maybe Michelle Malkin will mention me again someday.
