Sandy Burger gets wrists slapped really hard

From NewsMax...

Former national security adviser Sandy Berger removed classified documents from the National Archives in 2003 and hid them under a construction trailer, the Archives inspector general reported Wednesday.

The report was issued more than a year after Berger pleaded guilty and received a criminal sentence for removal of the documents....

Berger, who pleaded guilty to unlawfully removing and retaining classified documents, was fined $50,000, ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and was barred from access to classified material for three years.

Who else is old enough to remember the unending conniptions the MSM went through when Nixon's secretary, Rose Mary Woods, confessed to accidentally erasing 18 1/2 minutes of Nixon's private tapes that had been subpoenaed for the Watergate Witch hunt. Those were Nixon's private tapes, not top secret document held in the National Archives, and there was, then as now an ongoing investigation into the level of responsibility the President (then Nixon, now Clinton and Bush) had in the respected events (Watergate and 9/11).

So how is it the missing 18 1/2 minutes warranted full, across-the-board coverage for weeks on end, yet Sandy Burger's obvious, clumsy and unfortunately, ultimately successful attempt to destroy documents get a brief mention as trivial news? Oh, that's right, Watergate was such a bigger tragedy than 9/11. I guess that's their thinking, right?

Whatever was on that 18 1/2 minutes of tape wasn't all that necessary in the end, because Nixon resigned anyway. Whatever Sandy Burger destroyed seems to have bee something that he felt would implicate either himself or Clinton in the negligence leading to 9/11. We'll never know, and obviously the press, who's job I thought it would be to find out, doesn't care.

So, what good is freedom of the Press, if the Press itself chooses to work as an extension of a corrupt political organization?
