The joys of socialized medicine

From the BBC...

John Brandrick from Newquay was first told by Royal Cornwall Hospital in Treliske that he had pancreatic cancer and later diagnosed with pancreatitis.

The 62-year-old said after "living life to the full" he has to sell his home....

"I was told certainly, by the doctor, that I had cancer and from that day I lived life in full.

"I was told I had limited time to live. I got rid of everything - my car, my clothes, everything."

Turns out Mr. Brandrick doesn't have cancer, and the hospital is claiming it shouldn't be responsible for his actions resulting from their error. He's suing, of course. Since the entity he must go through to sue the hospital (the British government) also happens to be the one that funds the hospital, he's in a bit of a pickle.

Free health care doesn't seem so free now, does it.

This NEVER happens under our current, wonderful system.

In case you couldn't tell, I was being sarcastic.

I'd like to see some hard figures on mistakes like this under universal health care versus private restricted health care. Until then, this is just an anecdote and nothing more.
