James Kennedy retiring
From the Palm Beach Post...
The Rev. D. James Kennedy, known worldwide for his television and radio sermons, his conservative politics and evangelization efforts, is stepping down as minister of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, a church he founded in 1959 and built into a mega-church with nearly 10,000 members.
Kennedy, 76, had a heart attack in late December and has been in poor health since then. His daughter, Jennifer Kennedy Cassidy, announced on Sunday in her father's church that he was stepping down.
The church will soon begin a more formal search for Kennedy's successor, said Rick Penney, chairman of the church's long-range planning committee.
Dr. Kennedy is one of my favorite preachers. I loved listening to him years back when I had an outside job. I had a small radio with ear plugs and looked forward to 4:30pm when he came on locally. He was always fascinating to listen to whether it was his St. Patrick day sermon or his sermon on the faith of Abraham Lincoln, he was always well studied and well spoken. He's earned his retirement, but if I'm any judge of character he's most likely disappointed that he's having to take retirement this side of Heaven.
