The Ass. Press wrong again
The Associated Press has built a solid reputation as a dependable source of Liberal propaganda. It continues to live up to it "lofty" standards, when reporting on a political meeting Jimmy Carter has organized to help DNC candidates, under the guise of religion....
Carter and other Baptist leaders organized the meeting, "Celebration of a New Baptist Covenant,'' to develop common ministries and to challenge any perception that all Baptists accept conservative Southern Baptist views.
The former president, a longtime Bible teacher at his Plains, Ga., church, insisted that the meeting was strictly religious, not political. It is being held just days before Feb. 5, when 24 states will hold presidential primaries or caucuses.
Former Vice President Al Gore and former President Bill Clinton are among the keynote speakers.
Not political, right.
What really leaped out at me, though, is the following...
Carter and many others at the Atlanta gathering were once active in the Southern Baptist Convention but severed ties with its leaders after conservatives took control in a long, bitter and very public fight in the 1970s and 1980s.
Wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong. Conservative maintained control when liberals (calling themselves moderates) attempted to steal the denomination. The Liberals did manage to steal a few of the colleges operated by Southern Baptists (Baylor to name one) but were frustrated in their attempts to steal the denomination itself. It wasn't that long of a fight. It lasted just a few years when conservatives finally managed to end the various attempts by the liberals to sneak their people in key places. It was bitter only from the liberals' aspect and behavior. They were the ones throwing tantrums, while the conservatives quietly, politely and firmly stopped them. Most of the real "fight" was never made public since the Media had no desire in airing the childishness of the Liberals. I happened to have been in the midst of one of the "battle grounds" Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary during the height of the "battle" and little of what actually went on was ever made public. Typically the liberals would rush to the media with distorted stories to attempt to paint the conservatives in as bad a light as possible, then the media would report that, and ignore any actual investigating or explanation from conservatives. The Ass. Press's distortions are typical of the mythology the MSM spread.
