Life in a Science Fiction Novel

Found an interesting video on YouTube. I was sitting on our sectional in my seat, which is a recliner, using my laptop. Linda (my wife) was sitting across the armrest/storage compartment, roughly 2 feet away in the other recliner using her laptop. I showed her the video and she wanted the link to put it on her blog. So I IMed it to her. Which means I sent the text of the URL from my laptop, about 30 feet wirelessly, to our router, then about a dozen miles to the local ISP (Cox Cable) which then sent it another several hundred miles to the Yahoo Messenger datacenter (more than likely using a combination of fiber optics as well as satellite links) which then sent it back several hundred miles to our ISP, then back a dozen or so miles to our router, then the 30 feet, wirelessly to my wife's laptop--two feet away from me.

Who needs flying cars.
