Has Sarah Palin become a political tar baby?
For those unfamiliar with the term, in the old Uncle Remus stories, Br'er (brother) Rabbit was trapped when trying to fight an "animal, which was nothing more than a figure made from tar and turpentine. The mixture was sticky enough that the more Br'er Rabbit fought, the more he got stuck.
Almost immediately after Sarah Palin was announced as McCain's running mate, the Liberal MSM scurried to find what they could on her. But at the same time Liberal bloggers scurried to invent things about her. the result was that those few marginally scandalous things the Liberal Media found, looked just as sleazy as the transparently false outrageous the Liberal Blogosphere was tossing out. Not only did it offend most Americans who saw it as crass politics, it made Sarah Palin look like Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.
Each day the MSM drag out more "dirt", but each day Liberal bloggers drag out more ludicrous lies. It appears that even the citizens of Wasilla, Alaska are joining in the fun, seeing how outrageous a story Liberal reporters will swallow and print. Just this week a waitress in a cafe in Wasilla regaled reporters with the yarn that Sarah Palin, governor of the state, already aware she was being considered a potential VP, said, aloud, in front of dozens of alleged witnesses an outrageously racist comment about Barack Obama. And some in the MSM bought it. To their credit, most waited to see if there was any confirmation, and even the Daily Kos yanked several "diaries" that spread the lie. One has to wonder if next, Liberal bloggers will be looking for Sarah Palin's famous blue ox.
The latest MSM pack-o-lies involves Governor Palin's expense account as governor. Apparently the MSM are gagging over practices few in Alaska consider out of the ordinary. For a state that covers 1/5 the area of the entire 48 lower state put together, getting places would be a significant expense. In spite of the fact that Sarah Palin actually didn't claim much of what she would normally have been allowed to claim as travel expenses, the Washington Post boldly claims, "Palin Billed State for Nights Spent at Home". It's not until the 5th paragraph that the WP grudgingly acknowledges...
Gubernatorial spokeswoman Sharon Leighow said Monday that Palin's expenses are not unusual and that, under state policy, the first family could have claimed per diem expenses for each child taken on official business but has not done so.
...as well as...
Gov. Palin has spent far less on her personal travel than her predecessor
Remember, the previous governor had an expensive jet to fly in. Palin sold the jet and now flies coach on commercial airlines, saving the Alaskan taxpayers an estimated $37,000.
Whether it's Liberal bloggers who are generally too stupid to know better, Liberal politicians which may or may not be too stupid to know better or the Liberal press, which remains naively arrogant about their own impact on public opinion, any attack on Sarah Palin seems to have the opposite result than that which it was intended.
