Will ACORN steal this election for Obama?

Notice how the more leftist news sources always refer to "allegations" even after admitting of arrests and convictions. How is it alleged after a conviction? Also notice the party affiliation of Republicans are always mentioned, while the party affiliation of Democrats is rarely noticed.

From the New York Post...

Two Ohio voters, including Domino's pizza worker Christopher Barkley , claimed yesterday that they were hounded by the community-activist group ACORN to register to vote several times, even though they made it clear they'd already signed up.

From the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review...

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign paid more than $800,000 to an offshoot of the liberal Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now for services the Democrat's campaign says it mistakenly misrepresented in federal reports.

From the Washington Times...

"This is going to be an historic election with unprecedented voter participation, and we are committed to protecting the integrity of the voting process," Obama spokesman Nick Shapiro said. "We support local officials in their efforts to investigate any fraudulent behavior and the full prosecution of any illegal activities."

Still, the contributions to Citizens Services draw the Obama campaign closer to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, and the growing voter-fraud scandal that this week spread to the battleground state of Ohio.

From Politico...

House Republican leader John A. Boehner of Ohio escalated the war on ACORN today, calling for it to be cut off from all federal money and going so far as to call for a ban on ACORN contracting with candidates for federal office.

ACORN, a community organizing group allied with Democrats, has been blamed by the GOP for pushing housing policies that Republicans say contributed to the housing crisis. It has been the subject of investigations for voter registration fraud and its Nevada offices were recently raided.

From the Miami Herald...

In response to someone shouting out "ACORN" at an event, Presidential candidate John McCain today in Wisconsin called for an investigation into the liberal get-out-the-vote group, saying "there are serious allegations of voter fraud in the battleground states across America. They must be investigated. And no one should corrupt the ... right to vote"

Florida Gov. and McCain backer Charlie Crist isn't so sure. Asked yesterday if he had any reason to believe ACORN was involved in anything shady or illegal in Florida, he said: "No."...

Allegations of wrongdoing from Republicans have dogged ACORN since 2004. Some have been proven true and resulted in convictions in places like Washington state. Most investigations have gone nowhere, as in 2004 in Florida. In New Mexico, one U.S. Attorney was fired by the Bush administration for his refusal to prosecute the group.

From the Hartford Courant...

The State Elections Enforcement Commission is looking into a complaint alleging that a community advocacy group submitted fraudulent voter registration cards in Bridgeport.

Joseph Borges, Bridgeport's Republican registrar of voters, filed the complaint. He said he has found problems with numerous voter registration cards submitted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, which works to register low-income people.

In one instance, he says a card was filled out for a 7-year-old girl, whose age was listed as 27 on the card.

ACORN filed more than 8,000 cards in Bridgeport. The complaint involves 10, but Borges said there were problems with many others.

From the Columbus Dispatch...

Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner is breaking federal law by not giving county elections boards the chance to determine whether new voter registrations are fraudulent, a federal judge ruled tonight.

It is hard to imagine a public interest more compelling than safeguarding the legitimacy of the election of the president of the United States,” said Judge George C. Smith of U.S. District Court in Columbus, in upholding the Ohio Republican Party’s request for a court order.

Smith, appointed by President Reagan, said the Help America Vote Act requires states not only to verify the identity of newly registered voters with the state Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the federal Social Security Administration, but to provide counties with the names of new voters whose records did not match.

Brunner’s office had been doing the verification but had not made the names available to county elections boards. The judge gave her a week to comply.

Brunner is a Democrat. Seems they forgot to mention that.
