Resume builder site reviews.

Any company that hides the cost until you’ve spent time developing the end product is dishonest and not trustworthy. Most resume sites do this.

Also, I am using Brave browser on Windows 8.2. This may be why so many froze up. If you haven’t checked compatibility for a system still used by a very large percent of web users, then you deserve a bad rating.

JobScan.co —— 4 stars ★★★★☆
Allowed upload of previous resume, but parsed it poorly. While the data was there, it would require a bit of time to correct it. However, it did allow download of a free, no-watermarked PDF or docx of the resume.

ResumeTrick.com —— 3 stars ★★★☆☆
Claims to be 100% free. They are not wrong. However, no upload of previous resume, but I was able to download no-watermarked PDF for free.

NovoResume.com —— 3 stars ★★★☆☆
Does not allow for upload of data, so everything must be entered manually. Bummer if you already have a resume and just want to update it. However, allows a free download of your resume with no watermarks.

CVWIzard.com —— 2 stars ★★☆☆☆
To their credit, the have a link for pricing, which they inform you that it’s not free.

Indeed.com —— 2 stars ★★☆☆☆
Claimed to be free. They actually already had my resume, but would not use it to build a new one, all information needed to be manually typed in. It did allow a free download of the PDF.

Resume.com —— 2 stars ★★☆☆☆
Allowed sign in using Indeed.com. Allowed upload of previous resume. Only offered bare minimum designs. Download was free and had no watermark.

Zety.com —— 1 star ★☆☆☆☆
Claims to be free, however…you can only download in plain text, which is useless.

LiveCareer.com —— 1 star ★☆☆☆☆
No mention of price (B.I.G Red Flag, since most of these draw you through a long process only to demand payment before downloading). But in this case the site freezes up before even starting.

ResumeGenius.com —— 1 star ★☆☆☆☆
These “genuises” have a site that freezes up, so it’s impossible to actually use.

Resume.io —— 1 star ★☆☆☆☆
No mention of cost. Scrape data from uploaded resume and LinkedIn (but doesn’t seem to actually understand the data). However, only when downloading does it insist you pay.

Enhancv.com —— 1 star ★☆☆☆☆
Can only download a resume with a watermark, unless you pay. They don’t make that clear from the start. (I should ote, I did use the watermarked resume as the upload for other sites, since it have more recent data, but I would never have used it for a potential employer.)

CakeResume.com —— 1 star ★☆☆☆☆
Require account creation. Tried to import data from LinkedIn.com but failed. No way of uploading current resume that I could see. Allowed free download, but PDF was watermarked.

ResumeGiants.com —— 1 star ★☆☆☆☆
No mention of cost on the front page. Allowed upload of previous resume. PDF parsing buggy, since it didn’t understand the data very well. Required a lot of hands-on editing. $0 for 14 day trial, but required credit card. (Nope, not gonna do it.)

KickResume.com —— 1 star ★☆☆☆☆
Used linkedIn for account creation. Also allow import of data from LinkedIn profile. It processed the data okay, but limited the resume to one work experience and two education. the free download was minimal, and virtually useless, unless you have very little to put on your resume.

ResumeLab.com —— 0 stars ☆☆☆☆☆
Site freezes up. Useless.

Resume-Now.com —— 0 stars ☆☆☆☆☆
Site freeses up. Useless.

Resume.co —— 0 stars ☆☆☆☆☆
Doesn’t mention cost until you’ve completed the resume, then requires payment.

MyPerfectResume.com —— 0 stars ☆☆☆☆☆
Froze up the first time I accessed, but when I returned (to do this review) it let me through. But, in the end, it required payment to download.

GotResumeBuilder.com —— 0 stars ☆☆☆☆☆
Required account, which was created very quickly. Allowed import of previous resume, but didn’t understand the content very well. No download without paying.

Canva.com —— 0 stars ☆☆☆☆☆
Apparently I already had an account there, so I tried to log in, but it required a password reset. It would accept my usual password formulation (used so I can remember them) so I used a custom script to generate a random one (tedious). But I was able to import my previous resume and it imported the data (pretty much a mirror of the uploaded resume) But it wanted $30 to download the result. No thanks.
