Celebrating Independence Day

Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays — celebrating patriotism, our history and the tremendous courage, faith and sacrifices of our Founding Fathers. As the 242nd birthday of America dawns tomorrow, millions will get together with friends and family for backyard barbeques, games and fireworks.

By all means, enjoy the day!  Celebrate America and our freedoms!

But please take a moment to remind your children and grandchildren about America’s exceptionalism and the significance of Independence Day.

Remind them about the sacrifices at Bunker Hill and Concord Bridge that were necessary to create this nation and secure our freedoms. Tell them about the courage of George Washington crossing the Delaware River on Christmas night.

Most importantly, tell them about America’s “mission statement.” It can be found in the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. . .”

Those were radical ideas in 1776 and they are still radical concepts in many parts of the world today.  Even here in 21st century America it seems we are struggling with the concept of “truth” and the notion that our rights come from God, not government.

This July 4th we have much to celebrate.  We have stopped (for now) the left’s fundamental transformation of America.  Our economy is growing again.  Businesses are hiring again.  We have confidence again.

We are winning the war against radical Islamic terrorism.  And America is once again leading on the world stage.

But the future of our liberty depends on whether folks like you and me can, in the weeks and months ahead, muster the courage to overcome the left’s “resistance.”  We must preserve the nation our Founding Fathers created, a nation our first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, described as the “last best hope of Earth.”

In closing, I would like to offer a brief note of encouragement to our pastors, who are on the front lines of the culture war.

John Peter Gabriel Muhlenberg is a lesser-known hero of the War for Independence. He was a pastor and a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses.

In 1775, he preached a sermon on Ecclesiastes 3:1 — “For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven.” Pastor Muhlenberg closed his sermon with these words:

“In the language of Holy Writ, there is a time for all things. There is a time to preach and a time to fight. And now is the time to fight.”

He then removed his clerical robes and revealed to the congregation that he was dressed in the uniform of a Continental Army officer.

Pastor Muhlenberg’s example of a man of God fighting for our God-given rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness should give increased fervor and devotion to those who lead us in the fight for faith, family and freedom.

Men and women of faith won important victories at the Supreme Court recently, but the battle for our First Amendment freedoms, especially religious freedom, is far from over.

Like few times in our nation’s history, this is a time to fight for the values we cherish.

Illegal Alien “Facts” that Liberals dismiss out-of-hand as untrue, without ever bothering to actually research them…

#1 Seems implausible, however Food Stamps for illegals is a serious problem and Obama actively recruited illegals to sign up for these programs, meaning while a bit exaggerated, the point is very valid. Source: Judicial Watch

#2. “In Los Angeles, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide (which total 1,200 to 1,500) target illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) are for illegal aliens.”—from The City Journal. And in case you think the City Journal is some fly-by-night, right-wing, fake-news rag—City Journal is the nation’s premier urban-policy magazine, “the Bible of the new urbanism,” as London’s Daily Telegraph puts it. During the Giuliani Administration, the magazine served as an idea factory as the then-mayor revivified New York City, quickly becoming, in the words of the New York Post, “the place where Rudy gets his ideas.” The Public Interest went further, calling City Journal “the magazine that saved the city.”

#3 seems to be derived from a 2007 New York Times article by Daniel Altman, which attempts to “dispel the myths” of illegals being low-paid, uneducated, laborers.

The rest come from this, much lengthier, list in a CNN “ireport” article . The writer gives the source as “2006 (First Quarter) INS/FBI Statistical Report on Undocumented Immigrants”

Conservatism Wins

What a week it’s been for the conservative movement! As the Fourth of July approaches and Americans look forward to celebrating our freedom under God, we have more reason than ever to celebrate and to hope.

Once again Americans feel free to assert a confident patriotism. The world isn’t free of conflict, but the level of violence in many parts of the world is down and talks are underwaybetween global powers and regional rivals. Our nation is once again standing up for American workers and challenging trade barriers. Reports are surfacing that U.S. growth may exceed 4 percent for the second quarter and 3 percent for the year. A level of growth they said we’d never see again.

Now, we know there are plenty of people who see nothing but doom in these developments. Ronald Reagan called these folks “doomsayers,” by which he generally meant “liberals.” As harsh as his critics were then, I have to say today’s brand is worse. Not only do they see disaster around every corner, but they offer intimidation and threats, the whiff of violence, to get their way. Last night, Michael Moore, the paunchy video maker, went on the Stephen Colbert show to urge his fellow liberals to “put our bodies on the line to stop Trump.”

Rhetoric like this does no one any good. It’s radically out of tune with reality. But this is a good time for some other critics of the current Administration to pause and reflect. Two years ago at this time, after Donald Trump had won the most hotly contested GOP presidential primary ever, including many people I respect, the NeverTrump crowd, dug into oppose him.

The past week shows the price we would have paid had their campaign succeeded.  In one short week, the Supreme Court upheld the Constitution and handed down three rulings, touching all three segments of conservatism. The Court, by single votes, affirmed the President’s power to protect our borders from terrorist incursions, the right of government employees not to be forced to join unions, and the free speech rights of pro-life pregnancy centers.

On national security, economic liberty, and social policy, the court stood with American values.  Now imagine how radically different this week would have been if Hillary Rodham Clinton had won.  No Neil Gorsuch. Each ruling going the other way.

This dramatic week would have ended with Anthony Kennedy stepping down. The Supreme Court would have been lost for the next 25 years. But it’s worse than that. The vision of life, liberty, and family we love would have been lost, likely irretrievably. It’s time for the President’s “house critics” to offer some mea culpas and give Donald Trump his due.

Face Of The Future?

Political observers are still dissecting the results of Tuesday’s startling upset victory by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the Democratic primary for New York’s 14th Congressional District against incumbent Joe Crowley.

The media have showered her with glowing coverage.  The New York Times editorial board declared, “Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s victory is a vivid sign of the changing of the guard.”

But what they aren’t telling you is that some disturbing trends were key to her success.
For example, there were not so-subtle racial undertones to her campaign.

Even the Washington Post picked up on the fact her campaign slogan — “It’s time for one of us” — was “an appeal to the tribal identities of class, age, gender and ethnicity.”  In other words, white men like Joe Crowley shouldn’t be representing “us.”

As we noted before, Ocasio-Cortez is a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America.  Not that long ago, she would have been mocked as a communist.

She ran on a platform of “cleaning up the mess in Washington.”  But that doesn’t mean what you and I think it means.  She’s an avowed socialist.  She wants to make Washington even more powerful.  She wants big government to be even bigger.  That will make the mess even worse!

Moreover, the Democratic Socialists of America is a fringe group that has formally embraced the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.

When Hamas launched attacks against Israel along the Gaza border, Ocasio-Cortez accused Israel of mass murder.  She tweeted a story from Al Jazeera, writing:

“This is a massacre. . .  There is no justification. Palestinian people deserve basic human dignity, as anyone else. Democrats can’t be silent about this anymore.”

In an interview, Ocasio-Cortez suggested that her Puerto Rican heritage led her to sympathize with the Palestinians.  That’s strange since Israel was among the first nations to send aid to the island after Hurricane Maria.

Sadly, it seems that opposition to Israel is becoming a dog whistle for progressive candidates to signal their bona fides to far-left activists.

For some time now, political observers have nervously watched as anti-Semitism has spread within the progressive movement — at gay pride events, in the Black Lives Matter movement and the Women’s March.

And it was evident in Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign.  Thomas Lopez-Pierre was one of her biggest cheerleaders.  He volunteered for her campaign and passed out a thousand fliers.  But he is also known for a previous city council campaign in which he denounced “greedy Jewish landlords.”

Democrats often say that the Republican Party has become so extreme that Ronald Reagan could not win a primary today.  Well, as usual, they are completely wrong.

The Democrat Party has become so extreme that Bill Clinton could not win his party’s nomination today.  If Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is the face of the Democrat Party’s future, then the party of Harry Truman and JFK is dead.

Left-wing Hypocrisy

Conservative commentator Molly Hemmingway made an observation that is worth repeating.

Yesterday morning, the left was still in full-throated outrage over the children who were “ripped away from their parents” at the border.  Around 2:30 yesterday afternoon, the news broke that Anthony Kennedy was resigning, giving President Trump the chance to nominate a second constitutionalist to the high court.

Immediately, the same liberals who were crying about children being ripped from their mothers were screaming about the right to rip babies from their mothers’ wombs.  I don’t think any of them paused to consider the stark contradiction of those statements.

By the way, these same leftists who are demanding that women be allowed to illegally enter the country with their children are also demanding that pregnant women who do come into the country illegally be allowed to abort their children at taxpayer expense.

The radical Women’s March movement is calling for a day of unrest and “mass civil disobedience” in Washington, D.C., today.  At least 1,000 women have reportedly vowed to risk arrest.  Among their many demands, the Women’s March is joining the left’s call to abolish ICE.

Let’s be clear about what that means: These radicals are demanding that we let thousands of criminals roam our streets.

According to a recent study by the Pew Research Center, “Immigrants with past criminal convictions accounted for 74% of all arrests made by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in fiscal 2017.”  We’re talking more than 100,000 illegal immigrants with DUIs, drug charges, sexual assaults and even homicides.

Why “Crumb and Get It” refusing to serve Joe Biden is not hypocrisy…

In 2012 a Virginia restaurant, Crumb and Get It, refused service to then vice-president. Liberals are now saying Conservatives are being hypocrites for condemning the Red Hen, “when they praised” Crumb and Get It owners, Chris and Kelly McMurray. They forget a lot of details, though.

Biden wasn’t quietly stepping in with his family for a bite to eat. He was planning a full-fledge photo-op with media, cameras, the whole works. Sarah Sanders, on the other hand, simply entered quietly with her family to the Red Hen and made no fuss about who she was, didn’t bring reporters and photographers to blast the media with pictures of her eating there. The following media blast was cause entirely by the owners.

The McMurray’s were asked ahead of time for permission to do the photo-op, and he said no. He didn’t kick the Bidens out after they’d already quietly sat down to eat.

It’s a difference between behaving like a private citizen and behaving like an entitled Political Elite. Liberals of course, can’t really see the difference.

Divided Over Demonstrations

Democrat leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi issued statements yesterday attempting to distance themselves from Maxine Waters’ call for more demonstrations against Trump officials.

Waters attempted to defend herself by insisting that she only called for “peaceful protests.”  But Waters has a history of fanning the flames.

For example, she labeled the Rodney King riots an “insurrection” and called them “a defining moment.”  Those riots took place in 1992 when Donald Trump was still a New York businessman.   More than 50 people were killed.  Two thousand people were injured.  Fires and looting destroyed scores of businesses and caused more than $1 billion in property damage.

But the left has its marching orders.  Demonstrators carrying “wanted” posters showed up at the home of Trump aide Stephen Miller, hoping to harass him last night.

Speaking of harassment, the Washington Post ran a news story about Sarah Huckabee Sanders getting kicked out of the Red Hen restaurant.  They interviewed the owner who said that she felt compelled to act on the spur of the moment, but insisted she really is not a confrontational person.

Here’s what the Post didn’t tell us:  When Sanders and her in-laws left the Red Hen, Sarah left the area while the rest of her family went to a different restaurant.  Governor Mike Huckabee told Fox News yesterday that “the owner of the Red Hen then organized an effort to go and scream at them from the sidewalk at the other restaurant.”

These people yelling “Fascist!” at normal conservative views are using Goebbel’s handbook.  This is what actual fascists do to their enemies.  They harass them and attempt to intimidate them into silence and submission.

A Spreading Sickness

Sickness is spreading on the left.  Countless progressives are coming down with severe cases of Trump Derangement Syndrome.  It is becoming virtually impossible to catalogue it all.  In spite of my effort at humor, this is an extremely serious development and its implications should not be underestimated.

The most extreme example occurred Friday night when Sarah Huckabee Sanders and her dining party were kicked out of the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia.

When the owner of the Red Hen, Stephanie Wilkinson, got the “911 call” from her restaurant staff that Sanders had been spotted, she immediately rushed to her establishment.  Once she confirmed that Sanders was in fact dining at her restaurant, she called for a vote of the staff.

Wilkinson later told reporters that the homosexuals who work for her were particularly adamant about not serving the press secretary of the president of the United States because he will not allow open transsexuals to serve in the military.

Sanders and her party immediately left.  Some folks say that she should have made a stand and refused to leave.  But would you really want people this crazy preparing your food?

As students of history know, Harry Byrd Democrats in Virginia in the 1950s were infamous for refusing to serve people they found repugnant — their fellow Virginians who were black.

What’s next — separate water fountains for Republicans?

Over the weekend, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) stoked the left’s anger when she told crowd of protestors:

“If you see anybody from [the Trump Administration] in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”

Waters got her wish when Pam Bondi, the attorney general of Florida, was accosted and heckled when she went to see a movie about Mr. Rogers.  Apparently, Bondi is not welcome in Mr. Roger’s neighborhood.

On Fox News this morning, Bondi said the protestors, who surrounded her and were screaming in her face, “were trying to create a fight” and warned that these kinds of “protests” are going to incite violence.

Respectfully, I would remind her that “violence” has already happened.  A year ago, a deranged Bernie Sanders supporter didn’t just heckle someone.  He opened fire and grievously wounded Rep. Steve Scalise in an attempt to murder multiple Republican congressmen.

Law are like walls…

We make laws to create boundaries. There are some things society determines the individual shouldn’t do, so they make laws and provide deterrents for those who violate those laws. Occasionally, though, we’ll be presented with the choice to vote on a new laws that instead of creating a boundary, removed one. It’s important to remember when this occurs that like an actual wall in a house, you don’t just blindly remove what’s already there. If you take a sledge hammer to a wall in a house to create an opening you could easily smash through plumbing, electrical wiring or even vital load-bearing support.

Oklahoma’s SQ 788 would remove restriction against the possession and use of marijuana, however, it is in fact the most “liberal” pro-marijuana law ever introduced in the US.  Virtually every single valid (and I use that term rather loosely) medical use for marijuana is already legal in Oklahoma, via Cannibus Oil. What isn’t legal is recreational marijuana use, which is the real purpose of this law.

Proponents of the measure claim that since marijuana has been seen stopping seizures in some cases, we should blindly pass the law so “children” can be treated. I actually do suffer from a seizure condition and take medicine for it. This is the first I’ve heard of using marijuana to relieve it, but the truth is, it actually hasn’t been proven that marijuana can stop seizures and the side effects of marijuana are far worse than the seizures themselves.

Marijuana has two, main active ingredients: delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (or THC) and cannabidiol (or CBD). The THC is what gets you high, but the CBD is where all, and I mean ALL, the medical benefits reside. CBD is already legal in Oklahoma. There are plenty or legal, easily obtained sources of CBD for anyone who wants to see if it will help sure their seizures, warts, bed-wetting or whatever. But the main drawback of CBD is you can’t get high from it.

And there’s the rub. SQ 788 isn’t really about “medicine” (which would be why virtual every medical organization in Oklahoma opposes the ballot measure), it’s about getting high whenever you want to.
